Overview
The purpose of this project is to assess the dependence of local people on ecosystem services obtained from tropical forests, and the sustainability of different kinds of resource extraction. The project uses a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the conflicting interests and uses of resources, in order to identify possible solutions that would be beneficial to both local people and tropical forest conservation. The study combines remote sensing, ecological field studies, surveys and interviews with households and local people. The project is collaboration between the department of Human Geography and the Department of Biology at Lund University and is funded by SIDA.
