The Field Semester
One of the unique features of the LUMID programme is the third semester during which students get an on-job training in an organisation of their choice and subsequently carry out a field-based research for their master’s theses.
During the field semester our students are spread out to all corners of the world, learning and applying management methods while working with local organisations or regional and international institutions. LUMID students usually choose to do their internships within the UN system as part of several regional and country offices of UNDP, UNFPA, WHO, ILO, WFP, UNESCO and UNHCR. Our students’ hard work and dedication to their field placements has resulted in valuable recognition of the programme amongst development practitioners all over the world.
Internship Arrangements
LUMID students identify and contact internship host organisation on their own, based on their broad interest in the field, region or topic. It is the responsibility of the student to secure an internship placement. Students are encouraged to begin the process early in year one in order to be well-prepared for the third - Field Semester.
While our students are required to find an internship host organisation on their own, the programme provides information sessions to prepare them for the challenges of the Field Semester.
